HPC: Opening New Imaging Modalities for Pre-Clinical Medical Research

HPC detectors combine unique capabilities that offer a range of possibilities for functional imaging applications, creating opportunities for exciting new modalities. The following are just two examples:

  • Spectral information combined with nanoparticle contrast agents to enable quantification of tissue perfusion levels
  • Temporal information to detail cardiac and respiratory dynamics

Example of functional imaging: spectral and temporal CT imaging of a mouse. Spectral separation with iodinated contrast agent. Vascularization in red, bones (calcium) in green (courtesy C. Badea, Duke University, USA).
