PILATUS3 100K-M – The Swiss army knife of X-ray detectors

The new DECTRIS detector fits anywhere: it’s small, light, affordable, and vacuum-compatible all the way down to 10-6 mbar. It works particularly well with both very low and very high energies, thanks to the two sensor materials, silicon (Si) and cadmium telluride (CdTe).

This is the most versatile DECTRIS detector yet, and certainly a cost-effective one. Versions for both synchrotrons and laboratories using both Si and CdTe sensor materials are one thing, but the exceptionally small dimensions and low weight mean that the PILATUS3 100K-M can fit into many different detection configurations.

A completely new feature is the separate detector head: instead of fitting the entire detector into your vacuum chamber, small as it is, you only need to find space for an even smaller element. You can even remove the detector window to eliminate absorption and scatter in vacuum, boosting Signal-to-Noise-Ratios to the ultimate level.

This versatility is the reason why the list of the new detector’s possible applications is long, says DECTRIS product manager Tilman Donath. “Plasma spectroscopy, CT and µCT, (GI-)WAXS / SAXS, reflectometry, as well as high-energy diffraction and scattering are a few that come to mind”, Donath continues.
