PILATUS is the most recognized DECTRIS detector, the X-ray camera that introduced our superior hybrid-pixel technology to synchrotrons and laboratories. Our continuous development brings you the latest generation of this legendary product, DECTRIS PILATUS3®, which has been decorated with the Red Dot Design Award for winning industrial design.
These affordable, large-area detectors feature DECTRIS Instant Retrigger® technology for unsurpassed count rates up to 10⁷ ph/s/pixel and improved count-rate correction, direct detection of X-rays for a narrow and sharp point-spread function, and noise-free detection — all enabling fast and reliable data collection.
Thanks to DECTRIS’ industrial development, production, and support, these X-ray detectors are reliable and durable. Just ask the many institutions and laboratories around the world that are using PILATUS3 to capture data!
- More for less: PILATUS3 offers the best of hybrid-pixel technology in a large active area for an unbeatable price.
- Manifold: our detectors come in a variety of geometries and configurations to fit every setup.
- Reliable: we offer continuous support during integration, and also throughout the product’s life cycle.

Technology
Hybrid-pixel technology enables us to create detectors that are free of readout noise and dark current, and single-photon counting allows each pixel to detect individual photons and compare their energy to a discrimination threshold. Hence, hybrid-pixel detectors can selectively recognize and suppress unwanted sample fluorescence, and even (when using a second threshold) cosmic background radiation, giving you higher-quality images. DECTRIS’ photon-counting detectors are specifically designed and optimized for this noise-free direct detection of X-rays.
