SSRF plays an important role in Chinese structural biology

May 6th, 2019 was the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility’s 10th anniversary. The celebratory user conference was organized by the Shanghai University Science Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences together with Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, and altogether 318 experts and representatives from 96 research groups in China attended the forum.

At present, there are 518 research groups and 24,684 users from around the world doing research at the Shanghai Synchrotron. SSRF has become an experimental platform for frontier breakthroughs and high-tech development in many disciplines. In the past ten years, SSRF has obtained a number of important application prospects and widely used research results in many fields, such as structural biology, material science, catalytic research, and condensed matter physics.

"During the past ten years, SSRF has promoted the rapid development of structural biology in China and produced a number of important scientific research achievements in fields like materials science, catalytic research, and condensed matter physics", says Zhentang Zhao, director of the Shanghai Science Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. "The next ten years will be the golden period for the operation of SSRF. The facility will continue to produce significant achievements and cultivate key talents of synchrotron radiation, and the development of a new generation of synchrotron radiation source will continue."

Unite Technology Limited is a distributor of DECTRIS detectors for the Chinese synchrotron market and a certified service partner, and the company participated this meeting on behalf of DECTRIS. SSRF has collaborated with DECTRIS for over ten years: the institute has used many DECTRIS products and become familiar with the company. DECTRIS and SSRF have witnessed each other’s growth in the past 10 years. SSRF’s progress has also promoted DECTRIS’ development in China.
