DECTRIS CLOUD: A Year of Innovation, Collaboration and Scientific Impact

A 5-minute read

2024 was a milestone year for DECTRIS CLOUD, the DECTRIS’ platform to scientific insight. With rapid growth, new partnerships, and major technological advancements, it felt like two years packed into one.

At the start of the year, the DECTRIS CLOUD team consisted of just two people. By December, the team had expanded to seven, reflecting the increasing demand for advanced cloud-based data management solutions in scientific research. DECTRIS CLOUD was officially launched at the SRI, August 2024, and in just four months, more than 100 users had signed up to explore its seamless collaboration tools and features and test its capabilities that enable cutting edge scientific workflows.

Accelerating Scientific Collaboration

Throughout the year, multiple laboratories were connected to DECTRIS CLOUD in collaboration with leading research institutions. The beginning of 2024 was marked by the first test laboratory connected, and by the end of the year, four more had joined, including three beamlines in the U.S. and Europe and our first electron microscope. One of the most exciting milestones was the first experiment with a non-DECTRIS detector connected to DECTRIS CLOUD—the PSI Jungfrau, in collaboration with scientists from PSI and MAX IV. On the data side, we saw incredible growth. DECTRIS CLOUD  went from zero to over 100 terabytes of experimental data in the cloud by December 2024. Our dedicated DECTRIS CLOUD website attracted more than 1,000 visitors in just a few months, and scientists from around the world reached out to learn more about how DECTRIS CLOUD could support their research.

Looking to the Future

To address these challenges, we embarked on a mission to develop a comprehensive solution. Scientists, whether they visit beamlines frequently or rarely, often struggle with the varied environments and the large volumes of data collected during experiments. Our goal is to provide a unified, user-friendly platform that simplifies data handling and analysis.

DECTRIS CLOUD is designed to offer scientists the tools they need to dive deep into analysis of their data once experiments have concluded. This platform extends far beyond immediate data processing, ensuring that users can explore their collected datasets thoroughly, even after they have left the beamline.
